The toponym “Carancino” originates from Arabic, with “Car” meaning “road” and “Làgìn” meaning “orange” , thus translating to “Path of the Oranges.” During the Arab period, this area was a Mediterranean garden renowned for its specialized arboriculture, particularly devoted to citrus cultivation. Although citrus trees were already present, the Muslims expanded these plantations, paying tribute to the land’s fertility. Historical records attest to the spread of orange trees in Sicily as early as 1094, underscoring the fruit’s significance within the region’s cultural and agricultural fabric.
